San Simeon & The Elephant Seals

We are always looking for that next adventure around here. So after Shell and I ran our first race of the year. We loaded up our car and made our way to catch with Papa Paul and KK who had the boys and were on their way up to San Simeon. We arrived at the Elephant Seal Beach just before sunset and caught them particularily active. The boys had fun running up and down the viewing area to see the seals in action.

We spent the evening at a little lodge in San Simeon. The boys enjoyed hopping from our room to Papa and KK’s. They really enjoyed watching the Olympics cuddled up with Mom and Dad. Before they went to bed.

Next morning we walked down to the pebble beach to relax, explore, and watch the waves. We had a great time, the trip was exactly what all our little souls needed. I wonder where the next adventure will take us.

Chinese New Year 2010 – Year of The Tiger

This one sorta snuck up on us. We realized at the last minute that Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year were the same weekend. So in true Bennionz fashion we crammed in a quick trip to Chinatown on Chinese New Year’s Eve day! This year is the year of the Tiger, and we are hoping for good things. The boys had a Blast on the Train ride down. as well as running through Chinatown… which they think they own. Shell and I enjoyed it as well. As is our custom we took pictures, and here they are, Gung Hay Fa Choy:

We’ve had lots of news in our extended family in this short week. Here it is, in brief. More detail will come later.

Good:
Papa Paul just bought his first motorcycle. He completed training a couple of weeks ago and found a bike on Tuesday that he likes! He will soon officially be The Man on the Motorcycle.

Better:
We completed an application for an apartment near Daddy B’s work – and got it! We’ll officially sign papers next week and start the move process in November

Best!!!
Uncle Ryan and Aunt Melissa just got the amazing news – a child, a newborn little boy, will be placed into their care tomorrow. They’ve been hoping for this for a long time and we are SO DANG EXCITED!!

Like I said, more details will come in the following days. Isn’t life grand?

Today was an incredibly special day for our family!

Adeline Joy Bennion (“Addie”) was born.
3:35am
6 lbs 13 oz.

Addie is the daughter of Jess (Eric’s brother) and Michelle. We are so thrilled that she is here and even more thrilled that she managed to miss her Dad’s birthday (Jess’ birthday is the 7th and everyone was a little worried she’d show up then!).

Both Mom and daughter seem to be doing good – everyone is tired. They’ll go home on Friday (I think).

It was fun trying to explain to Will and Walker that the baby inside Michelle’s belly was now the baby inside the pictures we were sent. They still haven’t grasped the concept, as is evidenced by the fact that Will continues to tell me about the baby in HIS belly. This is their first cousin on either side of the family AND that gives Eric and I the coveted Aunt and Uncle status. I’m excited to share lots of love without all the responsibility. I’ll leave that to Jess and Michelle who I am sure will do well!

Congrats Jess and Michelle! Welcome to our world baby Addie! We love you already!

The Blog is Back and Better than ever!

We had some problems with Blogger, and rather than wait any longer to update our blog we have transfered it to a WordPress Blog. Hopefully you will like it. One thing you may notice is that we have combined the “Diarydad” Blog with the “Adventures in Bennionland” Blog. So you will be able to go to one place to get all the updates you used to get for both.

We have some neat things planned for the Blog and the website so please stay tuned.

Valentine’s Treats

Valentine’s Day was so much fun! A lot of people are not interested in Valentine’s Day and label it as a Hallmark holiday. They aren’t wrong. From the huge chocolate covered hearts to the overpriced cards the holiday, like the rest, has gotten out of hand.

Still I will always be in favor of a holiday that promotes the sharing and verbalization of love. Regardless of what tacky card that love might be written in.

At our house we had an abundance of Valentine’s excitement…

The boys and I made gluten-free (GF) orange yogurt breakfast muffins for our friends:

and frosting-free GF M&M cupcakes for Will’s class:

and brought it home filled with cute notes and goodies:

I got a package from my uber-talented friend Susan
with some homemade sugar scrub she made:

and surprised me with this incredibly cute wallet
that she sells through her company, Freshly Picked:

Grandma Steph sent the boys a great package with lots of treats. They carried their heart slinkys around all day and colored with their fan crayons after naptime.

One of the highlights was getting to have a Valentine’s Day date with Walker at a local bagel shop. He was thrilled to have a chocolate chip muffin with just his mom. He chatted my ear off the entire time and was utterly charming.

The boys then got to spend the evening with Papa, Goosey (who is in town), Aunt Pat, and Uncle Doug. Eric and I had a unique evening spending the first part in therapy (what better way to say I love you? Really!) and then enjoying a nice dinner together. I got gorgeous flowers but forgot to take an individual picture. (You can see them on the table in my Chinese New Year party post.)

He’s married!

Our Uncle Ryan got married today! How exciting. He married a girl named Melissa and she’s really fun. She has come over to our house a couple of times and we’ve seen her lots at Grandma Steph’s. I think she’ll be a great new member to our family and I know that Mom is excited to have another ‘in-law’ and now has both Michelle and Melissa!

Here are some pictures from the day today and from the rehearsal dinner last night. Neither Will or I were in a really good mood today so we don’t look too excited- but we were!
