Breakfast time is one of my favorite times of the day. Mostly because at that point I still think everything they do is in the cute category and not the annoying one. (That changes by 11:00am.)

The best part of breakfast is that, after a good night of sleep, the boys’ mouths are loosened and they let loose some funnies. Here are some from today:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walker (with his mouth full of Chex cereal): Mom, I love sssexx.
Me: Oh, you love CHex. (enunciating the ‘ch’)
Walker: No, I love sssseexxx. (enunciating the ‘s’ as if it was ‘ch’)
Me: Yeah. Chex is really good. (enunciating the ‘ch’ again!!)
Walker: Yup. Sex is good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Will: I’m the protector of you Mom.
Me: Oh really. What do you protect me from?
Will: Everything. From mean dogs, from bad guys, from strong winds. Everything.
Me: Well thanks Will.
Will: And Walker protects Daddy. And Daddy protects me.
Me: Cool.
Will: And Mom?
Me: Yes?
Will: You protect the whole world.
Me: Wow. That’s a lot of people to protect.
Will: Yeah, but you can do it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While I’m walking around the kitchen Will comes and grabs hold of my legs.
Will: I’m a lock Mom. You cannot move.
Me: Oh wow. How am I supposed to make you breakfast.
Will: You cannot move.
Me: I guess I need to find the key.
Will: There is no key.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Walker picked up some prospectus my that parents get from one of their investments. He read each page – telling the story of how Glendora was made. Which, in case you are wondering, was by lots of ants and a cat.

For the past two weeks we’ve been visiting family (and squeezing in a few friends) in Utah. We had a glorious time. I’ve had the good intentions of blogging all about our trip since we got back on Saturday…but well, you know life!

Turns out Walker caught a bit of a stomach flu bug. Nasty stuff. Monday was a rough day. We thought he was past it yesterday – he was even riding his bike around outside! Early this morning when he crawled in our bed we were told otherwise. We weren’t really told…but you can paint the picture yourself.

Today he’s been pretty mellow, which if you know his you know isn’t normal. One good part is that he is extra cuddly.

Another good thing is that potty time with Walker is like taxi-cab confessional. He sits and tells fables of his day, and every once and a while he admits to something he has done in the past day or two. Today he was full of confessions.

“Um Mama. Yesterday Weeyam (that’s what William sounds like) and I. Um. Um. Weeyam said poopoo. That’s a bathroom word.”

“Mama. Mama. Mama. I took your camera. I took pictures”

“One day Weeyam, he said no to me”

And the list goes on. It was hilarious!

This afternoon, before ‘rest’ time, he asked if he could take a bath. He was so incredibly tired that he laid down in the bathtub.

And, as the water was draining, he fell asleep. Glad I was in there!

As (almost) every parent knows potty training is an interesting process. You have to wait until your child displays the *signs* that they are ready to train, you have to decide on a potty training method, and then you have to begin.

With Walker this has been a really trying process for me. Will was a little bit older and a little bit more verbal than Walker so, while it was expensive, it was quicker and easier. Walker is the kind of child who reacts so much to my energy and my moods that if I am the least bit rushed, he’ll slow right on down.

So the last few weeks have been filled with highs and lows. I really thought we got the hang of it last Wednesday when Walker came running down the hall to tell me he needed to go ‘poo-poo’. When we rushed into the bathroom I realized that he had already gone potty in his pants. I had to remind myself that he at least told me and that was a step…but my patience wasn’t all that thrilled.

What I realized the other day made me remember that in the moment of frustration with our kids we often miss the magic. For example, as I sit 15 – 20 minutes in the bathroom waiting for Walker to do his stuff I often read him stories, ask him about his life, and have great conversations! Given his busy nature these moments do not happen a lot in other circumstances.

I took full advantage of this time on Monday. We talked and talked. In fact he did not want to get off of the potty – I think he too realized the importance of the time with just Mom. 1/2 way through the ‘event’ I got the camera. I had been asking him about colors that he likes and it was too priceless.

Yes this is a video of my kid on the potty. Yes he does have a sucker (it was a last ditch attempt to get him to STAY on the potty). Enjoy:

Kids are funny. If only I had the time (and the memory!!) to get down everything that my boys do and say on an hourly basis.

Walker’s language is just developing at an awesome rate so not one day goes by that he hasn’t picked up some choice words or phrases. The word ‘no’ is a big, well no-no, for him right now and he can tell you who told him no, when and why.

Never one to be short of words Will has us trying not to laugh most days. Kind of hard to discipline when your three year-old is making a good point! Today he had a time-out at preschool and when I asked him why he said ‘Because Mrs. Jackson wasn’t listening to me.’ I said, well were you listening to her? He remarked, ‘No because she wasn’t listening to me and I was telling her I wasn’t ready to leave the playground yet.’

Here are some more funnies from this week:

Will: ‘You just do that KK!’ (In response to some idle threat she made while in the car)

Walker: ‘You are trouble Mom!’

(At Sea World)
Me: ‘Wow Will. Look at that walrus swimming.’
Will: ‘Shhh Mom. I’m looking for his penis.’

Walker: ‘You said no to me Mom. That’s not very good.’ (While fake crying)

Will singing only the chorus to Jingle Bells 33 times in a row.

Walker: ‘I’m not Shamu. You’re Shamu.’ (I’ll try not to take it personally)

Will: ‘Are you listening to me Mom? Are you? Are you? I’m not sure you are!”

Will & Walker asking, insistently, to have the Jimmy Buffett edition of Jingle Bells played. They especially love when he asks, ‘Hey Santa, what you got in that big burlap sack for me? A present?’. (Thank heaven for childhood naivete!)

Grandma KK: ‘Will, what was your favorite part of Sea World?’ (We went yesterday – pics to come!)
Will: ‘The fans.’

Patti (his great-aunt): ‘You and Walker need to come and visit. Get your cute buns over to my house this week.”
Will: ‘Pat, don’t you have your own buns? You need to buy your own hot dog buns for your house. We’re not going to bring ours over.’

And of course this episode with a Lego chair:

I should have known the minute he came into our world. Everything Walker does he does with gusto, gumption, and no fear. It started with his birth and has been true for almost every minute since. The only minutes when he seems fearful are when roller coaster or new dogs are involved…and those are pretty rare.

So it shouldn’t surprise me, or anyone reading this, that Walker is often found climbing, jumping, hitting things, bouncing, or running. When he woke up at 5:00am this morning it was followed by him running from room to room, in search of me (he failed to check the bedroom first), and then him climbing up onto our bed (which already had Will in it) and then jumping around. 5:00am means nothing to this boy.

Being a little tired this morning I made oatmeal for breakfast. It’s easy, it’s a favorite in our family and will probably forever since it’s gluten-free. Will was playing on his computer and needed my help. I had turned the stove off and moved the pot. Doesn’t matter. Before I knew it Walker had climbed up onto the stove and was screaming. Turns out he burned four of his left-hand digits on the still hot stove.

He has now spent most of the morning having me recite which finger is which (i.e. pinky, pointer, etc), playing with his Thomas band-aids (he needed one for each finger!), and crying because they hurt. I don’t doubt that they hurt, they are already turning into white blisters on the tips of his fingers…BUT I do know that part of the tears come for show!

Look at those band-aids!

Oh, woe is he!

After all the trauma he was still excited to eat his oatmeal, and then promptly fell asleep at the table!

Well it is finally my turn to write! My Mom tries really hard to let Will and I both have a turn with this but sometimes I am just not really in the mood or I don’t have a lot to say. This week is different for me though because I feel like the world this week was just made for me. Everyone seemed to notice me and everything seemed like it was out just for me.

I did have a few favorite highlights from the week. The first one is that my teeth are coming in. I am getting my two bottom front teeth. I’m really excited because I like to eat my Mom and Dad’s food so this means that I’ll be able to eat even more. In fact I think all the good food that my Mom and Dad made this week was actually just for me. Here is what my two new teeth look like. Burritos, popsicles, cookies- watch out here I come!

Here is what I look like when my teeth hurt. It is not so much fun.

Another of my favorite highlights this week was having lunch with my Dad at the water fountain. We met Dad for his lunch hour at the Gateway. The fountain there is lots of fun. I wasn’t too sure about it myself at first but I did warm up. It was fun though because Will was really excited to play in it and he’s usually much more of a weenie than I am. It was so nice to have time with Dad and also play in the fountain. See what fun we had:

The last highlight for the week this week was having Mom curl my hair. Yeah, I know it sounds girlie but if you tease me I’ll keep your butt- trust me, I can. My Mom is really excited about my curly hair and when she noticed that it made a nice curl she had to take a picture. I loved having all of the pictures taken with the camera!

For now I think I should close. I’ll add one more picture of me having fun with my Aunt Victoria who came to keep Mom and us company. Dad put his hat on my head and I looked so cute.

Love,
Walker ‘Turbo’
